Tottenham Hotspur suffered an agonising late defeat, and Hugo Lloris has come in for a lot of criticism on social media.
Several Spurs fans have implored Mauricio Pochettino to look to replace Hugo Lloris during the summer after the goalkeeper endured a poor afternoon during Tottenham’s agonising defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.
Spurs produced a superb performance against the title-chasers. After conceding an early goal to Roberto Firmino, Pochettino’s men were arguably the better side, particularly after the break.
They got their rewards when a superb piece of vision from Harry Kane ultimately led to Lucas Moura smashing the ball home from close range with 20 minutes remaining.
But it was to be Liverpool who got the winner as Lloris parried Mo Salah’s header straight into Toby Alderweireld. The ball deflected off the Belgian, who was then unable to clear his lines as the goalkeeper looked set to claim it at the second attempt. Unfortunately for Spurs, the ball slid through and went in for the 90th minute goal.
Lloris has been an outstanding servant for Tottenham since arriving in the Premier League. But it is becoming more and more difficult to argue that he remains one of the very best in the division when you consider that Sunday was not the first time he has cost his team this season.
And plenty of the supporters are now adamant that not replacing the goalkeeper when the transfer window opens would be a serious error if Spurs want to put themselves in the title race at this stage of the campaign this time next year.
