AS Roma today confirmed the capture of Tottenham defender Federico Fazio, via their official official website.
The 29-year old initially joins on a season-long loan for a 1.2 million euro fee with a purchase obligation clause of 3.2 million euros kicking in next summer, subject to various ‘sporting targets’ being met.

The Argentine endured a torrid spell in England, featuring just 25 times in his two seasons at Spurs. His highlights include a straight red card in his Premier League debut against Manchester City and two dismissals in his first seven appearances overall.
He featured just once for Spurs last season, in the League Cup defeat to Arsenal in September, and joined Sevilla on loan on the last day of the January transfer window.

He failed to do himself any favours in La Liga either, getting sent off in his first appearance and featuring just six times in total.
Mauricio Pochettino’s system requires his centre-backs to be reasonably quick, calm in possession and capable of accurate long balls.

Fazio possesses none of these traits and as a result was never going to be a fit at White Hart Lane.
His exit is another step towards Pochettino’s vision of a fully functioning, streamlined squad and Spurs fans took to Twitter to share their joy at the lumbering defender’s exit:
