One of the most surprising transfer rumours of the year emerged this weekend, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Ben Davies linked to Chelsea by The Sun.
The paper speculate that Davies is wanted by Blues boss Antonio Conte and is valued by Spurs at £20 million.

The reasoning behind Davies being of alleged interest is the fact he would qualify as a homegrown player, helping Chelsea meet a quota, and he can also play in Conte’s preferred formation as part of a back three.
Davies, usually a left-back in a back four for Spurs, played in a back three at Euro 2016 for Wales as they reached the semi-finals of the tournament.

The timing of the link though means nothing is imminent, with the transfer window only opening in January, while it is also doubtful Spurs would like to sell mid-season, even at a tempting price.
Davies has been filling in for the injured Danny Rose at left-back for the last fortnight, but disappointed in the Champions League against Monaco in midweek, partially at fault for both goals in the 2-1 loss.

He was left out of Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Sunderland this weekend, although came off the bench late on.
