Tottenham Hotspur were linked with Ben Chilwell in the summer, and plenty of their supporters were impressed with his latest display.
A number of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Ben Chilwell’s performance during England’s emphatic victory on Friday night – with several Spurs supporters suggesting that they would love to see the left-back in Mauricio Pochettino’s ranks.
Gareth Southgate’s men got their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign off to a flyer as a Raheem Sterling hat-trick helped the Three Lions to a 5-0 win. Harry Kane added another goal to his tally with a penalty in stoppage-time at the end of the first-half.
It was an excellent night for the World Cup semi-finalists. Understandably, Sterling’s display dominated many of the headlines, but there were a number of impressive performers all over the pitch, and many of the Tottenham fans picked out Chilwell as someone in particular who caught the eye.
The Leicester City full-back was making only his sixth appearance for the senior side, but he is quickly establishing himself as one of the key men in this current lineup.
The Telegraph reported last September that Tottenham were interested in signing the 22-year-old. And it appears that several Spurs fans would be very happy if it emerged that he remained on Pochettino’s radar.
Chilwell looks comfortable on the big stage, and should only get better in the coming years as he gains more and more experience. And it seems that the supporters feel that he would be the ideal player to move above the likes of Danny Rose and Ben Davies in the pecking order – though some have their concerns regarding the price that he may cost.
