Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly hoping to sign Manchester United striker Anthony Martial two years after trying to bring him to White Hart Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been taking to Twitter to discuss reports linking them with a sensational move for Manchester United striker Anthony Martial.

The Daily Mirror reports that Spurs are considering taking advantage of Martial’s apparent inability to hold down a place in Jose Mourinho’s side by making an approach two years after they first made a move to land him.

Martial was at Monaco when Tottenham attempted to bring him to the Premier League, the Mirror reports, but, of course, he ended up heading to Old Trafford, where he has only provided glimpses of a player who could be worth £36 million, which is what United initially paid to sign him.

He has scored just three times and contributed four assists in the top flight this term, but it must be noted that he is yet to start as a central striker this term.

While the Mirror adds that he may be about to fall further down the pecking order with the Red Devils pursuing a summer switch for Antoine Griezmann, Tottenham fans on social media have predominantly reacted in a very pragmatic manner to the rumours.

Despite Martial’s somewhat peripheral role at United, few Spurs fans appear to believe that a deal could end up happening. The clubs are two of the main protagonists in the race for the top four, so it is difficult to imagine that United would be comfortable with giving a deal their blessing, unless they receive an astronomical offer from Tottenham.
