According to a report from AS, Unai Emery’s Villarreal are interested in signing Tottenham’s Juan Foyth this summer.
The Argentinian hasn’t played a game for Spurs since December and he is one of the players expected to move on before the transfer window closes.
ESPN claimed last month that Foyth wants to stay at Tottenham and fight for his place under Jose Mourinho. The Sun reported last week that the Spurs boss wants to move him on in order to raise funds to secure deals for his other targets.
AS claim that Tottenham would be willing to let him leave this summer but only on loan. Villareal would like to sign him on a permanent deal yet Spurs’ unwillingness to sell him seems strange.
Foyth has less than two years left on his contract. If Tottenham don’t really see the need for him, this would be the perfect opportunity to let him leave for a reasonable price.
The 22-year-old will only have a year left on his contract at the end of next season and his value will drop considerably as a result. Selling him after a loan spell will not help them unless there is a fixed clause inserted into the deal.
If Tottenham really see Foyth’s potential, they will need to extend his contract before they send him out on loan in order to protect his value on the transfer market.

The Argentinian is naturally a centre-half but he has featured at right-back as well. Foyth has only played 32 times for Spurs in all competitions since joining them in 2017. Injuries have hampered his confidence, which has played a big part in his performances.
Tottenham fans aren’t quite sure what their club should do with respect to Foyth.
Some of them feel that he is good enough to play for them, while others have urged Mourinho to let him leave permanently this summer.
