Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp declared earlier this week that he would love to see Gareth Bale return to Spurs from Real Madrid – but Spurs fans have reacted more realistically on Twitter.

Redknapp, who coached Bale at Spurs during his four-year stint as boss between 2008 and 2012, told TalkSPORT that he reckons Bale could “come home” after falling down the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane.

Bale, 28, was an unused substitute in the 2-1 Champions League semi-final win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, with the likes of Isco, Cristiano Ronaldo and Marco Asensio being used more frequently.

It has prompted talk of a return to north London for Bale this summer, but a move would see Spurs have to completely demolish Daniel Levy’s tight stronghold on the wage budget. According to the Telegraph, Bale earns £350,000 a week.

Nevertheless, Redknapp urged Spurs to consider re-signing him this summer and reckons Bale would be keen to return to Spurs with the club set to move into their new stadium next season.

But Spurs fans have been much more realistic on Twitter in reaction to Redknapp’s comments, stating that the Wales international is way out of their price range in terms of wages.

One fan believes he would have to take a “massive pay cut” in order to re-sign at Tottenham.
