Tottenham fans react as Real Madrid reportedly reject Mateo Kovacic’s transfer request

Reportedly a target for Tottenham Hotspur, Mateo Kovacic is said to have seen a transfer request rejected by Real Madrid this summer as he looks to leave – and Spurs fans have urged their club to press on with a move anyway.

Sky Sports have reported that Spurs are after the 24-year-old playmaker, who is currently preparing for Thursday night’s World Cup clash against giants Argentina in Russia.

Spurs are in need of a midfielder as Mousa Dembele’s future in north London remains in doubt. Kovacic, a long-time Tottenham target, is now said to want a move.

Spanish outlet Cadena COPE claim, though, that Real Madrid have rejected the former Inter Milan star’s transfer request, with the report stating that Real will not accept any offers.

Kovacic is said to be happy at the Santiago Bernabeu, but is desperate to start more for the Spanish giants. He managed 36 appearances in all competitions last term, but only 21 of those.

Tottenham fans reacted to the news that Kovacic’s transfer request had been rejected by Julian Lopetegui’s side, and urged chairman Daniel Levy to make a move anyway.

One fan reckons Kovacic will be Spurs’ “new [Luka] Modric”.
