Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left confused by reports linking them with Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.

Tottenham fans have been reacting to the reports that have recently emerged from the Daily Mirror which suggested that Mauricio Pochettino is eyeing a summer move for Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.
The Mirror reports that Michel Vorm’s contract with Spurs is set to expire in the coming days and Pochettino is reportedly bracing himself for the Dutchman’s exit by monitoring McCarthy after the stopper’s stunning form at the back end of this past season.

McCarthy’s introduction into the Saints was undoubtedly an inspired move that certainly played a key part in helping Southampton stay in the top flight. The 28-year-old was named their Player of the Season despite beginning the campaign as a clear understudy to Fraser Forster.
The Mirror reports that there is plenty of interest in the goalkeeper this summer, with Wolves, Arsenal and Liverpool all being linked before Tottenham joined the party. And with one year left on his deal at St Mary’s, he could perhaps do a decent job of pushing for a move away if he did want to leave.

Despite McCarthy’s superb run of form to end the campaign, the rumours have prompted a lot of confusion amongst the Tottenham fans with several supporters not sure why Pochettino wants a deal.
Paulo Gazzaniga was third choice last season but put in a man of the match display when he got to make his Premier League debut for Spurs in the win over Crystal Palace back in November. And that display has left many convinced that he could be Hugo Lloris’ understudy if Vorm leaves.
There is some support for a potential deal, but it appears that the general consensus is that a transfer is almost unnecessary despite the quality that McCarthy showed this past season.
Here is the best of the reaction to the reports…
