Tottenham attacker Onomah has impressed on loan with Championship side Aston Villa.
Tottenham Hotspur youngster Josh Onomah has told Football.London that he wants to return to north London after loan side Aston Villa failed to gain promotion to the Premier League – and Spurs fans have welcomed the idea of his return.
The 21-year-old struggled during the early stages of his season-long loan with Steve Bruce’s promotion-chasing outfit, but rediscovered his form and made 37 league and cup appearances for the Midlands club.
He came on as a late substitute on Saturday evening as Villa lost 1-0 to Fulham in the Championship play-off final, with Tom Cairney’s first-half strike proving to be the difference.
Speaking to Football.London after the loss, England Under-21 international Onomah stated that he wants “to get back to Spurs” and see if he can “break through” into Mauricio Pochettino’s first team.
The versatile midfielder has three years remaining on his contract in north London, but he faces huge competition from the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Moussa Sissoko for a place in the Spurs side.
It remains to be seen where his future lies, but Spurs fans have reacted to his comments by insisting that he would be welcomed back in north London this summer.
One fan believes Onomah would be “like a new signing”.
