Tottenham Hotspur were heavily linked with a move for Aston Villa star Jack Grealish in the summer, but a deal never took place.

A number of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the news that Aston Villa confirmed on their official website on Monday that Jack Grealish has signed a new five-year deal with the Championship side.
For much of the summer, it appeared entirely possible that Grealish would end the window as a Spurs player. BBC Sport reports that Mauricio Pochettino’s men were heavily linked with the midfielder, but ultimately failed to meet Villa’s valuation.
And some Villa supporters will now be hoping that Tottenham have missed the boat when it comes to potentially signing Grealish anytime soon. The club have announced that he has put pen to paper on a deal that is set to keep him at the club until 2023.
It is probably not a scenario that many would have imagined taking place just over a month ago. The Telegraph reported in July that Grealish wanted to make the move to Spurs, so signing a new deal does appear to be something of a u-turn from the youngster.

And in response, some Spurs fans have expressed their disappointment on social media. While his contract extension will hardly end the speculation surrounding his future, there appears to be some supporters who feel that it is now looking incredibly unlikely that anything will take place further down the line.
Some have actually hit out at Grealish for extending his Villa contract or suggested that it is not too much of a blow for Spurs as they were not convinced that he would have been that great a signing anyway.

Here is some of the reaction to the news that Grealish has extended his contract…
