Christian Eriksen’s agent has told ESPN that the Tottenham Hotspur playmaker is not interested in entering contract negotiations, or indeed discussing a move elsewhere until the summer – but Spurs fans are worried.

Eriksen has less than 18 months remaining on his contract at Tottenham, with Real Madrid continuously being linked with a big-money move for the 27-year-old Dane.

Sky Sports claim Eriksen is earning just £70,000 a week at Spurs, almost a third of Harry Kane’s £200,000-a-week pay cheque (The Sun) – largely down to chairman Daniel Levy’s tight stronghold on contracts and wages.

But with Eriksen nearing the end of his four-year deal, Schoots stated that his client is focusing on playing football rather than either signing a new contract or opening talks over a move elsewhere.

“Christian only wants to focus himself on football,” Schoots said. “Besides his technical, tactical and athletic skills, also this attitude has contributed over the years to his impressive transformation from world class talent to world class player.

“At this moment I would prefer not to join the speculations about contracts and transfers.”

Eriksen started the campaign slowly but has certainly improved his form of late, in the absence of Dele Alli and Kane. He has had a hand in 19 goals during 33 games, scoring seven and creating 12 more.

The former Ajax star has scored five goals in his last 10 Premier League appearances, and remains the creative heart of Mauricio Pochettino’s title challenge. That is why Spurs fans are worried by Schoots’s comments.
