Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly closing in on Boca Juniors midfielder Wilmar Barrios.
Tottenham Hotspur may not have managed to bring in any new signings over the summer, but they may be making moves to ensure an early January deal goes through.
Spurs beat West Ham United 1-0 on Saturday afternoon ahead of their Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven in midweek, and one transfer rumour has taken over this weekend.
On Friday, Argentinian radio station Crack Deportivo reported that Tottenham are moving for Boca Juniors midfielder Wilmar Barrios, after strong summer links for the Colombian.
It’s claimed that Tottenham already have an agreement on personal terms with Barrios’s representatives, and they will now offer €23million (£20million) for the anchor man in January.
Barrios was heavily linked with a summer move to Spurs having impressed at the World Cup with Colombia, but he decided to stay with the Argentinian side until the end of their Copa Libertadores campaign.
With the final coming in November, and Boca in the semi’s against Palmeiras, Barrios should be able to move on in January, and it seems that Tottenham are ready to bring him to North London.
The combative midfielder, 24, would strengthen Pochettino’s midfield options, and with claims that a deal is close, Spurs fans have been taking to Twitter to offer their views.
Fans are split, with some feeling that Barrios is the cheap option when Abdoulaye Doucoure or Tanguy Ndombele should be top targets, and many aren’t convinced that he is good enough for Spurs.
Others think he will thrive under Pochettino, and claim he is a ‘proper brute’ to be a midfield enforcer, with many believing he is a good start to the January window, living in the hope that there are more to come.
