Tottenham Hotspur end their season today against the backdrop of rumours surrounding Harry Kane.
Sky Sports claim that Kane has told Tottenham that he wants to leave this summer in order to pursue silverware with another club.
It still feels a little unlikely that Spurs will just roll over and let Kane leave, especially given that he still has three years left on his contract and would command a staggering fee.
Daniel Levy won’t sell easily, especially to a London rival in Chelsea, so the Blues may have to offer cash as well as players in order to have any chance of a deal.
ESPN now report that Chelsea are prepared to offer striker Tammy Abraham and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in a part-exchange deal for Kane.
Abraham does have goalscoring talent even if he isn’t as well-rounded as Kane, but the notion of Arrizabalaga being involved is bizarre.
The Spanish goalkeeper cost Chelsea £72million in 2018, but has really struggled to adjust to English football and is second-choice behind Edouard Mendy.
Arrizabalaga maybe isn’t a lost cause at just 26, but Tottenham have a settled first-choice goalkeeper in Hugo Lloris, and being offered a new stopper is hardly going to tempt them into selling their talismanic striker – especially one that hasn’t impressed in England.
Tottenham fans have been taking to Twitter to react, seeing the funny side as they suggested that taking Arrizabalaga should raise the price for Kane, not bring it down!
Others are laughing at the mere thought of Spurs taking that kind of deal, laughing it off with jokes about how offloading Kane and bringing in Arrizabalaga would be like trading a Lamborghini for a Ford Fiesta.
