Tottenham Hotspur are through to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup after beating Stoke City 3-1 this evening.

Spurs needed to bounce back after two Premier League defeats in a row, and took the lead over the Potters when Gareth Bale headed home a Harry Winks cross.

Jordan Thompson did drag Stoke level, but Ben Davies and Harry Kane found the net to give Spurs a 3-1 win and a passage into the last four.

This takes Spurs another step further to winning a first trophy since 2008, and they will now wait to find out who they face in the semi-finals.

The win won’t live too long in the memory as it was a rather attritional game at times, but Spurs fans did praise midfielder Winks.

The homegrown ace has found first-team football hard to come by this season, but Mourinho has recently ruled out the possibility of a January exit.

Winks started against Stoke and turned in a strong display, with Spurs fans calling him the man of the match, even suggesting he controlled midfield like ‘prime Xavi’.

Others were somewhat surprised that Winks was ‘actually very good’, having flattered to deceive at times in 2020 – and some even want him to play against Wolves this weekend.
