Paul Merson was not enamoured with Tottenham moving for Davinson Sanchez.
The move draws a line under a frustrating summer so far for the club, who had left it until now to wrap up their first summer signing.
Sanchez is a potentially terrific buy for Spurs, but one pundit not impressed was former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson.

Merson told SkySports’ The Debate on Thursday evening (17/8 10pm) that he still believed Spurs had endured the worst summer of any Premier League club, adding of Sanchez: “Never heard of him.”
Merson’s dismissal of the Colombia international drew widespread derision from Tottenham fans, who were quick to point out that as a football pundit he should be aware of the defender.
Sanchez only has one year’s experience in European football, but he was a key part of the Ajax team which reached last season’s Europa League final, beating Lyon in the last four and playing against Manchester United in the final.

If the record buy is a big hit at Spurs then Merson’s quick dismissal of the centre-back could quickly come back to haunt him.
After all, Merson had certainly heard of Moussa Sissoko last summer, but the France international’s struggles show that being a high profile player is no guarantee for success.
Here is a look at how Tottenham fans responded to Merson…
