Tottenham Hotspur may be in action against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League this evening, but their youngsters have also been taking on the Russian side this afternoon.

Spurs Under-19’s took on their CSKA counterparts earlier today, with a number of players hoping to catch the eye of manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has always shown that he is willing to promote young players.

However, Tottenham lost 3-2 against CSKA Moscow’s youngsters in a topsy-turvy encounter, which saw striker Reo Griffiths give Spurs the lead.

Timur Zhamaletdinov and Ivan Oleynikov put CSKA in front, and after Griffiths had struck his second of the game with a late equaliser, Oleynikov popped up again to score the winner for the Russians.

It was a disappointing end to the game for Spurs, but some prospects will have boosted their first-team chances with their performances – most notably, Marcus Edwards.

The 17-year-old playmaker is the most exciting player coming up through the ranks at White Hart Lane, and has even earned comparisons to Lionel Messi due to his diminutive stature and exceptional dribbling ability.

After featuring in the EFL Cup against Gillingham last week, Edwards turned out for Tottenham’s Under-19’s today, and was influential throughout.

Some suggested that Edwards was Tottenham’s standout player against CSKA, whilst team-mates Griffiths and Jack Roles also earned praise from fans.
