Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to beat Aston Villa on the opening day of the new Premier League season.

Aston Villa may have suffered an agonising 3-1 defeat in their first game back in the Premier League, but one Villans star has been lauded by a number of Tottenham fans on social media for his performance in the loss.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men needed to come from behind with less than 20 minutes to go at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to secure the three points, with Tanguy Ndombele marking his debut in style before Harry Kane picked up where he left off by scoring a brace.
Villa defended superbly for large parts of the game having taken the lead through John McGinn’s ninth minute goal. The likes of Mings, Bjorn Engels and Tom Heaton looked like they were not going to be beaten as Spurs camped themselves in Villa’s half after the break.

Mings joined permanently this summer after enjoying a brilliant loan spell during the second-half of last season. His arrival looked to be the catalyst for the run of form that led to Villa coming from nowhere to seal a play-off spot and ultimately winning at Wembley.
And while Tottenham may have got the win, it appears that plenty of Spurs fans are confident that Villa will be fine this season while they have a player of Mings’ calibre in their ranks. One supporter even suggested that Pochettino should target the centre-back – who cost an initial £20 million, according to the Express and Star.

Here is what some of the Tottenham fans made of Mings’ display…
