The Spurs full-back made 10 appearances last term and is eager to kick on at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Kyle Walker-Peters’ comments regarding his desire to fully establish himself as a Spurs first-team player next season (official Tottenham website).
The Lilywhites full-back has come through the academy ranks at the North London club and made his full debut at the start of the 2017-18 season, helping his team to a 2-0 away victory against Newcastle United.
Last term, Walker-Peters made 10 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham, including a start in the Champions League group stage match against Barcelona in which he played for just over an hour (Transfermarkt).
The 22-year-old found himself behind Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier in the right-back pecking order last season, but in conversation with the official Spurs site, he admits he is targeting more minutes in 2019-20 as he bids to impress Mauricio Pochettino in training.
“I’ve got to the stage where I’ve stopped looking at myself as a young player and now I’ve got to compete against friends in the dressing room and at the same time learn from them and take what they know and use it my game,” he said. “With the opportunities I’ve had so far, the manager has said ‘I do trust Kyle’ and I think I’ve done quite well. Now I need to kick on a bit more.
“Pre-season is the opportunity to show the gaffer what you can do and try and get yourself in his plans for the season. That’s my aim. Every pre-season I’ve gone into I’ve had that in my mind, that I need to show the gaffer what I can do and that’s my target again, to show the manager, the coaching staff and even the other players that I’m ready to fight for my spot in the team.”
