A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on the Carabao Cup third-round draw, with Spurs being handed a tie away at League Two side Colchester United (official Tottenham website).

As one of seven Premier League Clubs competing in Europe, Tottenham will be commencing their League Cup journey at the third-round stage and will lock horns with a team they faced in cup competition just four seasons ago.

On that occasion, the fourth round of the FA Cup, Spurs made relatively light work of the U’s at the Colchester Community Stadium, with Nacer Chadli’s brace, plus goals from Eric Dier and Tom Carroll, helping Mauricio Pochettino’s side to a 4-1 win (BBC Sport).

The Carabao Cup third-round ties will be played in the week commencing 23 September and Tottenham will have to be mindful of the fact Colchester took a Premier League scalp to book themselves a tie with Spurs, beating Crystal Palace on penalties in round two.

Here is what some Tottenham fans said on social media regarding the draw, with a fair few outlining the fixture as a great opportunity to give academy prodigy Troy Parrott a runout:

Coincidentally, Tottenham’s development squad will also take on Colchester’s senior side at their ground in the group stage of this season’s EFL Trophy in early October (official Tottenham website).
