Spurs came from behind to beat Watford late on at Wembley.
Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to beat Watford on Wednesday night at Wembley thanks to goals from Son Heung-min and Fernando Llorente – but Spurs fans are fuming with Hugo Lloris.
Spurs came into the match under enormous pressure after being knocked out of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup last week, while Mauricio Pochettino’s comments about finishing in the top four were under scrutiny.
It looked as though Javi Gracia’s side were about to unload lots more misery on Spurs, with Tottenham captain Lloris at fault. The Frenchman hesitated from a corner, and Craig Cathcart pounced to give Watford the lead.
It took until the 80th minute for Spurs to equalise, as Son broke into the Watford box on his return from the Asian Cup to smash home a left-footed effort from 12 yards out.
Llorente had missed a sitter from inside the six-yard box with the score still at 1-0, but he made amends to the delight of the Tottenham support with an exquisite header from a Danny Rose cross in the 87th minute to win 2-1.
Despite securing all three points late on with a hard-fought victory, Spurs fans were unimpressed with their captain and took to Twitter to criticise the goalkeeper.
Captain of the club and conceding only 297 goals in 278 Spurs outings, as well as keeping 99 clean sheets, Lloris is somewhat of an icon at Spurs since his £7.9million move from Lyon (Independent). But some want him replaced.
