When you think of midfield hardmen likely to lose the plot and start choking a youngster in an under-23 game, usually mild-mannered Liverpool star Adam Lallana is probably the last name which would come to mind.

But it’s always the quiet ones…

Lallana was sent off playing for Liverpool’s under-23 team against Tottenham last night after attacking Spurs teenager George Marsh.

It came after an innocuous high challenge between the pair, and Lallana simply lost it.

He was instantly red carded and if the FA deem it serious enough, he could end up with a suspension for the first team.

The 29-year-old England international was hoping to benefit from some game time after missing the past couple of months through injury.

He managed an hour before his red card, with his actions as unexplainable as they are inexcusable.

It came after an intense game between Liverpool and Tottenham’s first teams in the Premier League, and perhaps Lallana was just too keen to make an impression.

He did so in all the wrong ways, and it was the dominating event on a night where Liverpool lost 1-0 and also later had youngster George Johnston sent off.

Tottenham fans have criticised Lallana’s actions on social media, calling for the FA to implement a ban.
