Tottenham have been linked with a move for de Ligt since the end of the 17-18 season.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly tabled a huge £48million bid to sign Ajax wonderkid Matthijs de Ligt in this summer’s transfer window, ahead of Italian champions Juventus – and Spurs fans have reacted with delight.
Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web claim Juve have been priced out of a move to sign the 18-year-old defender following Tottenham’s enormous bid, but they are still said to be short on Ajax’s asking price.

The report states that although Spurs have made an offer for the five-time Holland international, they are still £4.5million off Ajax’s valuation of the impressive young defender who has already appeared in a Europa League final.
De Ligt’s stock has continued to rise following the end of the 2017-18 campaign, where he made 39 appearances in all competitions which included three goals and captaining Ajax five times towards the end of the season.

It remains to be seen how Ajax will respond to the reported offer, with the ball in their court as de Ligt has three years remaining on his current contract at the Amsterdam Arena.
But Spurs fans have reacted with excitement on Twitter following news that chairman Daniel Levy is looking to smash the club’s transfer record, which currently stands at £42million for Davinson Sanchez.
