Tottenham fans want Edizn Dzeko… but do they really stand a chance?
Tottenham Hotspur fans have been raving about Roma striker Edin Dzeko after his performance against Liverpool.
Dzeko scored in Roma’s 4-2 win over the Reds, even though his efforts were not quite enough to see his side avoid a 7-6 aggregate defeat.
The Bosnian striker is well known to Spurs supporters from his time at Manchester City, which included him scoring four goals in a dominant performance at White Hart Lane.
Dzeko would be a big upgrade on Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen, two strikers who Spurs have signed in successive seasons, only to see them fail miserably.
There is a lot to like about the potential idea of signing Dzeko for Spurs, but there are just as many problems with the idea too.
Dzeko may be unwilling to sign for a club where he would play second fiddle to Harry Kane, especially after his showing in the last four of the Champions League as Roma’s main striker.
In turn his performances will have seen his price tag rise, and possibly put him beyond Tottenham’s reach, or a least be more costly than Spurs are prepared to pay for a back-up striker.
Dzeko snubbed a return to England in January with Chelsea and his bond with Roma’s supporters has grown since.
Tempting as a move may be, this might be one potential deal which Tottenham would find too difficult to make work.
