Harry Kane has urged Tottenham Hotspur fans to make the new stadium the Anfield of the south ahead of Spurs qualifying for the Champions League knockout round – but Tottenham fans are not impressed.

Spurs scraped through into the knockout rounds thanks to an excellent 1-1 draw against Barcelona, which saw Lucas Moura cancel out Ousmane Dembele’s opener after some good work from Kane himself.

Kane, 25, spoke after the match and was asked about the new stadium. He told the Mirror that he wants to see Spurs fans replicate the kind of atmosphere Liverpool thrived off of last season in the Champions League.

“It would be incredible, something special, Champions League games in the new stadium,” Kane said. “We’ve got to try and create that atmosphere.

“Everyone knows Anfield’s been fantastic for that. They’ve pulled out some great comebacks and results there and I’m sure that’s what we’re going to have to do to progress in this competition.”

Tottenham’s progress into the last 16 came after Inter Milan failed to beat PSV Eindhoven, drawing 1-1 at the San Siro instead despite numerous chances for the likes of Mauro Icardi.

Reports suggest that Spurs will not relocate to their new stadium until February, with the first leg taking place on 12/13 February and the second a week later – meaning it is a race against time to get it ready.

But Spurs fans are not impressed with Kane’s comments which to some have suggested that Liverpool supporters have provided their club with better support. Fans have told Kane that they want to create their own atmosphere.
