Paul Merson suggested that Tottenham will struggle to finish inside the top four if they lose Christian Eriksen before the end of the month, when speaking on Sky Sports’ The Debate programme last night, and some Spurs fans took to Twitter in response to his comments.
Eriksen’s contract with Tottenham expires in the summer of 2020, and he has been heavily linked with an exit from north London this summer.
He remains a vitally important player for Spurs, however, and he proved his worth on Saturday, when he came on as a second-half substitute and subsequently changed the game for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
And Merson highlighted just how important the Denmark international is to Tottenham, when speaking on Sky Sports’ The Debate programme last night:

He put the ball through the eye of a needle, he played little one-twos and he has vision.”

The problem for Spurs, however, is that they will be desperate not to lose Eriksen for nothing next year, so if they receive a substantial offer for his services from a foreign club before the end of the month, it might just make sense to move him on, certainly from a business perspective.
And following Merson’s comments on Eriksen, some Tottenham fans took to Twitter, criticising the ex-Arsenal man for his remarks…
