Tottenham Hotspur may have to sell to buy players this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has been both praised and criticised for Spurs’ wage structure that The Guardian claims is capped at a basic wage of £100,000 a week – but fans are beginning to grow frustrated.

That is because The Guardian also claim that Mauricio Pochettino will have to sell some of his players this summer, if he is to lure any new stars to north London.

Respected Guardian journalist Dave Hytner writes in his report: “He [Pochettino] will continue to have to sell in order to buy; to keep the books balanced,” despite a net spend of just £40.25million since joining Spurs from Southampton.

Spurs are likely to conduct a fire sale and offload a number of fringe stars, with the report stating Mousa Dembele, Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose are all on the transfer list.

Though Spurs fans were at one point impressed with Levy’s structure at the club, now it could begin to hold Pochettino’s side back. Tottenham must add to their side this summer in order to keep pace with their Premier League title rivals.

Spurs fans are growing frustrated with Levy’s unwillingness to spend big on both transfer fees and wages, and have reacted angrily on Twitter to the claim that their manager will have to sell before being able to buy.

One fan reacted in a frustrated manner, Tweeting: “Of course. Levy and Enic need their profits”.
