Tottenham’s Dele Alli celebrates scoring their first goal with Harry Winks
Harry Winks has been an outstanding contributor to Tottenham Hotspur since making the breakthrough this season.
His performances have seen a clamour from fans to get him involved on a more regular basis, and it would have been little surprise if Gareth Southgate had decided to call him up into the recent England squad.
So it was a little of an oddity that Winks was merely a substitute for England’s under-21 side last night for the fixture against Denmark.

Chelsea’s John Swift, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Derby’s Will Hughes were selected instead, with Winks left on the sidelines.
Tottenham fans questioned the call via Twitter, bemused at the midfielder’s ‘snub’.
Yet there was a simple explanation for Winks being left out; with manager Aidy Boothroyd choosing to rotate the side.
It was a second away fixture for England’s under-21 side in four days, with Winks starting against Germany in the previous game.
England had a 23 man squad available for selection, and this was a friendly match with nothing at stake.
Bothroyd has to make decisions ahead of picking a squad for the European Championships this summer.
