Angry Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter after seeing Ollie Watkins complete a move from Brentford to Aston Villa.

The former Exeter striker joins the Villans in a deal initially worth £28 million, rising to £33m in potential add-ons. It is a club-record fee for the Midlands-based outfit.

The Athletic reports Spurs were Villa’s main rivals for the 24-year-old, although they weren’t in a financial position to move quickly and win the race.

Villa’s new attacker, who becomes reunited with former Brentford boss Dean Smith, bagged 26 league goals last term for the Bees. His efforts deservedly saw him named Championship player of the season.

However, while the Villa Park faithful will be beaming, Tottenham fans are doing the opposite on Twitter.

Jose Mourinho has added only Matt Doherty, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart to his ranks this transfer window. While they are fine additions, Spurs desperately need a striker to compete with Harry Kane.

The north Londoners have versatile forwards such as Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn to slot in if required. However, the lack of an out-and-out centre-forward as competition for Kane is a concern.

It’s a shock to see 2019’s Champions League finalists lose out to Aston Villa in the market.

Perhaps that’s why these supporters below are so infuriated…
