Tottenham fans and Jose Mourinho will love what Wales interim boss Rob Page said about Gareth Bale last night.

When asked what the four-time Champions League winner was watching on a MacBook while Wales played the USA last night, football365 quote Page as saying: ‘I don’t know what the players not in the squad were up to.

‘There are no problems at all. Bale’s here, he’s in the dressing room with the lads beforehand and making sure that everyone’s in the right frame of mind. He is probably the fittest he has been and we will benefit from that.’

Specifically, that last line will be music to Mourinho and the Spurs supporters’ ears.

The 31-year-old is yet to complete 90 minutes since rejoining the north Londoners over the summer.

Mourinho has been carefully easing his No.9 back into action, drip-feeding him game-time as he attempts to build up Bale’s fitness after a period in the wilderness with Real Madrid.

Despite being handed scraps of action, the ex-Southampton man has still impressed.

Bale scored a late winner against Brighton in the Premier League at the start of November, and has done well in the Europa League with two wins from his three appearances.

The fact that he is ‘the fittest he has been’ is fantastic news, and it is now up to Mourinho to decide what he does with that information from Page.

Does the ex-Chelsea boss consider Bale’s fitness regime to be complete, and feel he can now start on a week-to-week basis?

Or, does Mourinho continue to be cautious in fear of a potential injury?

It’s a difficult decision to say the least, given Bale’s previous fitness problems – we’re just glad we aren’t the ones who have to make the call.
