AC Milan have reportedly reignited their interest to sign Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech, with Tottenham coming close to landing the Moroccan superstar in the summer transfer window.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the Italian giants are eager to bolster their attacking options in the January market, with the out-of-favour Chelsea winger being viewed as a prime target for Milan as Ziyech looks to leave west London in 2023 after a more than underwhelming career at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea signed the winger from Ajax for £33m back in 2020 as reported by Goal, and whilst there have been some moments of magic from Ziyech, the playmaker has largely been out of form and an irregular starter for the Premier League giants. Which is why the winger was so keen to leave this summer.

Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad reported that Ziyech wanted to depart Chelsea during the off-season, with Tottenham one of the clubs interested in signing the winger, alongside Ajax. However, it now looks like Milan are leading the charge to sign the 29-year-old in January.

Indeed, Milan are aiming to impress in the UEFA Champions League this season as well as retain their Serie A title, and signing Ziyech in January could give the Rossoneri a boost to achieving both if they can strike a deal with Chelsea, who will no doubt want a decent fee for the winger.

However, given Ziyech’s instance on leaving west London, Milan could land themselves a bargain for the Morrocan if the winger pushes hard enough in January, and a deal could sting for Tottenham given how impressive the playmaker could be for the Italian giants.

Chelsea’s stockpiling of good players has seemingly met its course with Ziyech the latest player angeling for a move in January, and for Milan, they need to ensure that they beat the likes of Tottenham to the attacker’s signature, with the former Ajax star perfect for the Serie A side.

After all, the winger will bring a lot of quality that Milan are currently missing in the final third, and whilst a move to Tottenham would have been exciting, Ziyech is much better off moving to Italy with the European giants than making the London move to a Premier League rival.
