Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on reports claiming Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing Will Still.

The transfer insider, speaking on the Here We Go podcast, said the new Spurs manager “will not be him”.

Tottenham are still looking for a new permanent head coach following Antonio Conte’s exit in March.

Plenty of names have been linked with the Spurs hotseat, including Julian Nagelsmann and Vincent Kompany.

Earlier this month, a report was doing the rounds claiming Fabio Paratici had met Still over the Spurs vacancy.

Romano expressed surprise over the report, and was quick to say this would most likely not be the case.

“I don’t know who put that into the media, but I’m not aware of that honestly,” he said.

“I think Tottenham will go for a different kind of manager.

“With all due respect he’s doing an excellent job in France.

“But I think they will go for a different manager, it will not be him from what I understand.”

Our view

When a club as big as Tottenham finds itself looking for a new manager, the rumour mill will always go into overdrive.

Now, Still has done incredibly well at Reims and looks like a ‘fascinating‘ coach with a very bright future ahead of him.

However, he is only at the beginning of his coaching career, and hasn’t managed in England.

At present, Spurs are being linked with managers who have coached the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

The likelihood is one of those, with experience and trophies at the very highest level, will get the gig.

Admittedly, Vincent Kompany is in a similar position to Still, but by contrast, he has managed – and done well – in England.

And even then the consensus seems that he’s an inexperienced choice for Tottenham at this stage.
