Tottenham are reportedly considering a surprising move to sign Bayern Munich striker Eric-Maxim Choupo Moting in January – a player that Chelsea veteran Thiago Silva says he loves for his work rate, and his “winning mentality”.
The 33-year-old has been in immense form this season. Having played as a back-up striker at PSG and then at Bayern under Robert Lewandowski, he is now first choice – after Lewandowski joined Barcelona. He has 10 goals in 15 games.
Football site 90Min claim that Tottenham have a number of names on their shortlist. One of those is Cameroon star Choupo-Moting. He is out of contract at the end of the season, but whether he wants to leave, is another question.
Having played together at PSG, where Choupo-Moting won two Ligue 1 titles, he befriended Chelsea star Thiago Silva. The Blues defender spoke about Choupo-Moting in 2020, as per GFFN, praising his work rate and mentality.
“He is a friend that I have made here at PSG and a friend who I will keep for the rest of my life. He is a guy who always has a winning mentality, a working mentality, always with a smile on his face. That gives us a desire to help him.”
“With the ball, he really has qualities. Without the ball, he runs for others and makes efforts. It is something that I like a lot about him. He is a friend, but not just on the pitch, off of it too,” Chelsea ace Silva said, two years ago.
Tottenham considering Choupo-Moting: Silva loves his work rate
It would be a smart move from Spurs. Harry Kane has started all 21 games for Tottenham so far, lasting an hour on Wednesday night as Tottenham crashed out of the Carabao Cup – losing 2-0 to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
He desperately needs cover. Spurs, in the past, have had the likes of Vincent Janssen, Carlos Vinicius and Fernando Llorente. But they lack that kind of striker that can give Kane the odd rest. Choupo-Moting is a top, back-up striker.
But is Choupo-Moting really going to leave Bayern when he is finally getting a run in the side as the first-choice striker? Surely, he will want to remain at the German champions, win another title, and extend his stay in Germany.
