Tottenham Hotspur have scouted Stoke City defender Harry Souttar amid new links with a move to Premier League rivals Everton.
That’s according to the Stoke Sentinel, who claim that David Pleat was spotted scouting Stoke in the spring of this year.
Pleat helped spot Dele Alli for Tottenham and it’s believed that Souttar is the reason for his scouting mission to Stoke.
Pleat is a former Tottenham boss who now does scouting work for the club. Souttar could now be his latest find, but Tottenham face a battle.
Everton have joined Tottenham in race for Souttar
The Sun report that Everton want to sign Souttar with Duncan Ferguson scouting him for Stoke against Preston North End last week.
It’s claimed that Yerry Mina wants to leave Everton in 2022 and the Toffees have started looking for replacements.
Souttar, a giant 6ft 6in centre back, absolutely fits the mould. Turning 23 this month, Souttar has plenty of potential for the future.
Souttar is also a major goal threat. In seven caps for Australia, Souttar has a ridiculous six goals.
Stoke won’t want to sell cheap – just look at their deal to sell Nathan Collins to Burnley – and they may fancy a bidding war between Everton and Tottenham to drive the price up.

What about Joe Rodon?
Tottenham landed a centre back from the Championship a year ago having snapped up Joe Rodon from Swansea City.
Much like Souttar, Rodon was a defender who came up through his club’s ranks before shining in the Championship.
Big, physical and touted for a big future, Souttar and Rodon have clear parallels. They’re even regulars for their respective countries, Australia and Wales.
Rodon can barely get a kick in the Tottenham first team right now, and maybe they should focus on him rather than adding Souttar.
