Tottenham want Mohamed Bayo but the Clermont Foot attacker is now set to secure a move to Ligue 1 rivals Lille instead.

Spurs have made an almost uncharacteristically rapid start to the transfer window.

Five new signings are already in through the door with Fraser Forster, Clement Lenglet, Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison on board.

More and more potential signings are being linked and other strikers are even being touted despite the signing of Richarlison.

Tottenham want Mohamed Bayo

One such name is Clermont Foot striker Bayo, with Foot Mercato reporting last week that Tottenham were showing a real interest.

Everton were also mentioned in that report with Bayo seemingly primed for a move away from Clermont this summer.

However, Foot Mercato now have another update on Bayo’s situation as Lille are now ready to strike a deal.

It’s claimed that Lille are now on the verge of signing Bayo for around €12million (£10million).

Bayo is expected to travel to finalise his deal with Lille on Monday, ruling out a move to the Premier League.

Bayo, 24, racked up 14 goals and five assists in 32 Ligue 1 games last season, building on a superb Ligue 2 campaign in the 2020-21 season.

The Guinean international scored 21 goals in 37 games in that season, meaning he has now smashed 35 times in the last two seasons.

Bayo is understandably attracting major interest and £10million is a reasonable price for a striker scoring so many goals.

Lille have been quick to strike the deal, seemingly fearing that they may miss out to Everton or Tottenham if they don’t move now.

Bayo has previously compared himself to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, which is a comment bold enough to have come from the legendary Swede himself.

That could have been exciting for Everton or Tottenham but it looks like both clubs can cross Bayo off their wanted list with Lille on the verge of securing his signature.
