Tottenham want Evan Ndicka but a shock turn of events at Eintracht Frankfurt means the defender may now stay put this summer.
It’s no great secret that Tottenham want to sign a left-sided centre back this summer.
Ben Davies fared well in that role in Antonio Conte’s back three but isn’t a natural there.
Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni was the top target for Tottenham earlier this summer but he simply isn’t available.
Other names like Josko Gvardiol and Piero Hincapie have been mentioned, both of whom play in the Bundesliga – just like Ndicka.
Tottenham want Evan Ndicka
Foot Mercato reported earlier this month that Tottenham were leading the race to sign Ndicka from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Marseille were also listed as a possible destination but Ndicka certainly fits that Tottenham are looking for in that left-sided centre back position.
Ndicka, 22, came through the Auxerre ranks before being snatched up by Frankfurt back in 2018.
A huge defender at 6ft 4in tall, Ndicka is quick and is naturally left-footed – just what Conte wants in his Tottenham back line.
There have been questions raised about Ndicka’s ability on the ball but he will certainly appeal to plenty of Premier League clubs.

The idea was that Tottenham would swoop in for Ndicka in a bargain deal given that his contract expires in 2023.
The problem for Tottenham is that there has been a real turn of events at Frankfurt.
Defender Martin Hinteregger has suddenly retired at the age of just 29, leaving Frankfurt short of a key defender.
Kicker now claim that whilst Frankfurt had planned for Ndicka’s sale, the defender is starting to come around to the idea of staying.
Frankfurt don’t want Ndicka to leave for free so he would have to sign a new deal in order to stay, but it’s a real possibility after the shock Hinteregger developments.
This may end up being just like Bastoni; another left-sided centre back that just doesn’t end up at Tottenham despite strong rumours.
