The Spurs midfielder scored as Mauricio Pochettino’s side won their first Premier League game back at N17.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has spoken about what it was like to play at the club’s new stadium, admitting it felt “very different” to what he and his teammates had been used to and saying they will need to get used to one particular aspect.
After months of delays, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is up and running, the opening ceremony and first senior game having not only been ticked off but having gone incredibly smoothly.
Crystal Palace were Spurs’ first opponents back at N17 and Mauricio Pochettino’s charges successfully got through what could have been a nervy occasion, beating the Eagles 2-0 thanks to goals from Son Heung-min and Eriksen.
With almost 60,000 people in attendance, the stadium was noisy and Eriksen admitted that it did make it difficult for the players to communicate with each other at times, but the Dane said this was offset by the Lilywhites faithful roaring in support of their charges.
“It was very different because we needed to shout to each other but that’s what it’s like in a big stadium, so we’ll have to get used to that,” he told the official Spurs website. “But it helps that everyone is with us, in our stadium supporting us – it’s a big push.”
The very first senior goal at the new stadium was assisted by Eriksen, who set up Son to cut inside before firing a low strike which came off of Luka Milivojevic en route to the back of the net.
Eriksen then added the second, playing to the whistle as he picked up Harry Kane’s ball after the striker looked to have been fouled, before scrambling home from close range.
