Alasdair Gold has shared that Tottenham Hotspur duo Djed Spence and Troy Parrott are very keen to ‘impress’ their new manager, Ange Postecoglou.

Players from across the football circuit will return to pre-season next month and Gold added that Djed Spence, who never started a game under Antonio Conte before he was shipped out on loan to Ligue 1 in January, could return ‘early’ to Tottenham in order to prove his worth, as he told his own YouTube channel.

Added to that, Troy Parrott, who was on-loan at Championship side Preston North End last season, last played for Spurs three years ago and hardly got a sniff under Conte, and he is another that wants to get in the good books of Ange Postecoglou.

When Spence was signed last summer, he joined on the back of helping Nottingham Forest earn promotion to the Premier League, before returning to his parent club, Middlesbrough.

It proved to be a grave error from the 22-year-old because he wasn’t used more than 25 minutes by Conte, even though Spurs proceeded to let Matt Doherty leave in January.

But for every single Spurs player, and those coming through the academy, this is the time to showcase your worth to Postecoglou and Gold stated that two young stars are up for it.

“Troy Parrott was on international duty with Ireland, so he could be part of the July 12 group (that returns to pre-season),” said Gold.

“Again, if I am Troy Parrott and you are allowed to come back early, then you are probably looking to do so because I know he really wants to make an impression.

“Djed Spence is the same. I know he really wants to make an impression to Postecoglou and try to earn his place in the squad.”

Is there a future for Spence and Parrott?

As of this moment, the answer is probably no because of their past situations and what is ahead of them.

For Parrott, he hasn’t been used by Spurs for three years, yes, he has a contract until 2025, but it’s not like he has set the world alight in the lower leagues that he’s now going to be thrown into the deep end next season.

In regards to Spence, the issue facing the wing-back is that Emerson Royal, who improved last season despite Tottenham’s struggles, and January capture Pedro Porro are ahead of him, so once again, he now has his work cut out.

Either way, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the two young guns are loaned out again.
