Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham are both keen on Gift Orban but neither Premier League club is prepared to pay the £25 million Gent want for their Nigerian goal-machine.

The problem Tottenham face – in their pursuit of a striker capable of easing the club into life without Harry Kane – is that every man and his dog knows that Ange Postecoglou’s side have nearly £100 million burning a hole in their back pocket following the England captain’s switch to Bayern Munich.

As such, Gent are entitled – and expected – to demand a considerable sum should Tottenham come calling for their own penalty-box talisman.

In 28 games, Gift Orban has scored a remarkable 26 goals. Three of those came in just 50 minutes as Gent hammered Pogon Szczecin in their UEFA Conference League qualifier recently.

And while Tottenham supposedly feel that Gent’s £25 million asking price is a little excessive – per Belgian publication Voetbal Krant – Spurs may come around to the idea that Orban is still a punt worth taking as the window enters it’s final week.

Tottenham and Fulham need Kane and Mitrovic replacements

The report adds that, in addition to Spurs, Orban has interest from Lille and Fulham too. Marco Silva’s Cottagers also have cash to splash following the departure of Aleksandr Mitrovic to Al Hilal. Stuttgart frontman Serhou Guirassy and Paris Saint-Germain benchwarmer Hugo Ekitike have also been linked with a move to West London of late.

“(Orban) is a phenomenon,” Gent coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck beamed following that Pogon Szczencin hammering. “And he will continue to be a phenomenon. I’ve said it five times and I’ll keep saying it.

“Even if he is no longer here, he will remain a phenomenon, and I will continue to say that. His hat-trick? That is nothing special in itself anymore, is it?”

Kane, meanwhile, got off to a dream start to life in the Bundesliga over the weekend. He scored one and set up another in Bayern Munich’s 4-0 opening day victory over Werder Bremen.
