Tottenham signed Jack Clarke from Leeds in the summer.

Jack Clarke of Leeds United

Jack Clarke has not had the fast start to the season at Leeds United he might have wanted.

Clarke joined Tottenham in the summer for £8.5 million before being loaned back to the Whites for a year.

But there is no reason for Tottenham to be worried, and nor should they be any time soon.

Clarke this season in the Championship has not played a single minute in the Championship.

But he is just three games into the season and to be concerned would be to overblow his situation.

Clarke only made four starts across the whole of last season in the league from a possible 46.

He started in the Carabao Cup win over Salford, and so one start from four is about what should be expected.

Signing a contract with Tottenham should not artificially elevate Clarke in the Leeds pecking order. He has to earn it.

His task remains tough, with Jack Harrison re-signed and Helder Costa added, while there is competition also from youngster Mateusz Bogusz.

If he is not part of Leeds’ team, then he wouldn’t be near Tottenham’s either just yet, and being part of the Whites’ set up is better than just being with Spurs’ under-23s. There may be time for that next season.

Tottenham, Clarke and Leeds knew what they signed up for when this extended loan was agreed, and its playing out as expected so far.

No favours are being given to him, and over the course of the season he will undoubtedly play a prominent role. Just a bit of patience is needed all round.
