Did Tottenham Hotspur dodge a big bullet over Denis Suarez? Potentially.

The Barcelona midfielder joined Arsenal on a half-season loan in January but, according to The Sun, the Gunners are preparing to ship him back to Spain when the campaign ends.

Suarez is yet to start a Premier League game in what’s been an underwhelming first couple of months in North London.

And Tottenham should feel grateful that he didn’t end up on the white half of the city.

Back in 2017, The print edition of Mundo Deportivo [16/08/2017, page 16] reported that Spurs were interested in signing the 25-year-old and were willing to cough up £27 million, though a transfer never materialised.

And it’s a good thing that it didn’t because so far the evidence indicates that it would’ve been a waste of money.

If Suarez can’t hit his best form in England under Unai Emery, a man who coached him at Sevilla and knows his strengths and weaknesses inside out, then Mauricio Pochettino probably wouldn’t have been able to get a tune out of him either.
