‘Extraordinary’: Manager raves about £21.5m star who will be playing for Tottenham next season

Tottenham have signed Destiny Udogie and the teenager has been making a huge impact with Udinese, earning praise from his manager.

Tottenham signed two wing backs for immediate use over the summer as Djed Spence and Ivan Perisic arrived.

Spence is still one for the future but should be Tottenham’s long-term answer at right wing back whilst Perisic is making an instant impact at left wing back.

Tottenham did though strike one more wing back deal, signing Udinese ace Udogie before sending him back to Udinese on loan.

Fabrizio Romano claims that the deal totalled €25million (£21.5million), with €18million (£15.5million) up front and the rest in add-ons.

Tottenham seemingly wanted to make sure they had Udogie tied down, fearing that other clubs would move in for him next summer if they waited.

So far, you have to say that idea may have been right.

Udogie was excellent for Udinese on Sunday night, scoring the opening goal in a 4-0 thrashing of Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

Udogie is showing the potential to become Tottenham’s left wing back for years to come, even with Ryan Sessegnon already at Tottenham.

The 19-year-old could be a masterstroke signing for Tottenham and his manager is now raving about his impact for the Italian side.

Boss Andrea Sottil has told Tuttomercatoweb that he thinks Udogie is ‘extraordinary’ whilst praising his attacking ability up the left flank.

“Udogie is doing extraordinary games, he has the ability to play, restart and turn like few others. When this team is precise and fast it hurts,” he added.

There will of course be some ups and downs for Udogie as he develops, but Tottenham have to be encouraged so far.

The buy-and-loan-back Tottenham have taken is reminiscent of the 2015 deal to sign Dele Alli from Milton Keynes Dons.

Alli became a star when he returned from that loan and Tottenham will hope for the same from Udogie – although they will hope his impact is a little longer-lasting, all things considered.
