Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has been left out of the squad to face Burnley tonight in a shock decision from Nuno Espirito Santo.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Alli will not be part of the squad but isn’t injured.

Alli’s omission seems to be a decision from boss Nuno Espirito Santo, whose patience with Alli could be wearing thin.

Nuno has vowed to play a strong team for this Carabao Cup clash with Burnley, potentially seeing this as Tottenham’s best chance at a trophy.

That Alli isn’t being included at all is alarming, and could be the beginning of the end for him at Tottenham even with over three years left on his £100,000-a-week deal.

Alli burned bright but fizzled out at Tottenham

We all remember how good Alli was when he first burst onto the scene with Tottenham.

With 46 goals in his first three seasons at Tottenham, Alli was a star. His goal against Crystal Palace should have been a highlight of a glittering career.

Instead, it feels like being a case of unfulfilled potential.

Since the end of the 2017-18 season, Alli has found the net just 21 times for Tottenham. That’s less than his 2016-17 total.

Now 25, Alli looks a shadow of his former self. The attacking threat seems to have vanished, his first touch hasn’t developed and he is a million miles away from the England setup.

It’s sad to see Alli’s career going this way, but maybe he needs a fresh start now. It looks like Nuno is already looking at life without Alli at Tottenham.
