Tottenham Hotspur star says his success has come at a personal cost.
Tottenham Hotspur star Toby Alderweireld is among the elite players in his position in the Premier League and if not the world.
His performances over the past three seasons, first with Southampton and the latter two with Tottenham, have seen him establish himself as a centre-back few strikers relish playing against.

The 27-year-old does admit however, that his commitment to his career has come at a personal cost, even though he considers it to be worth it.
Alderweireld opened up in an interview with Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad.

He said: “Since I was fifteen I have no Christmas or New Year with my family to celebrate. My family, I see rarely or never. My oldest brother has children: I was not there on the day of their birth, no birthday. I miss every special moment. After twelve years it begins to weigh.”
Tottenham fans should not panic despite these comments, for Alderweireld followed up by expressing how lucky he is.

“I am now at the highest level and I want to maintain this as long as possible, because that’s where I’ve worked many years so hard for. I have only one thing in my mind: make the most of the football.”
Having made the sacrifices, Alderweireld has no intention to suddenly walk away, for otherwise it all would have been pointless.
His Tottenham side are on the verge of becoming a major force and he is a key part of that.
