After selling James Bree to Aston Villa, Barnsley should target Tottenham youngster Kyle Walker-Peters.

Barnsley have had a tough transfer window, losing star players Sam Winnall and James Bree.

19-year-old Bree was a regular at right-back for the Tykes, with his performances prompting Aston Villa to splash out on his signature earlier this week.

His exit leaves Barnsley looking for a replacement, and an ideal option if they can pull it off, would be to target Tottenham Hotspur youngster Kyle Walker-Peters.

Walker-Peters like Bree is just 19, but he has found his path to first team football blocked.

In his way is England international and near namesake Kyle Walker, and former Burnley defender Kieran Trippier.

It would take an injury crisis for Walker-Peters to get first team opportunities between now and the end of the campaign, and a loan move is in his best interest.

At Barnsley he would be joining a club, until the end of the season at least, with a track record of showing faith in young defenders.

John Stones and Mason Holgate both established themselves as regulars and earned moves before Bree, and Walker-Peters could be confident about getting opportunities.

The England youth international has been in Barcelona on Tottenham’s first team training camp over the past few days, and needs to use the end of the season to kick on, by going out on loan.
