Paul Parker compares Liverpool and Tottenham stars.
Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno in action with Sevilla’s Mariano
Former England international Paul Parker has criticised Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker, comparing him to Alberto Moreno of Liverpool.
Moreno is under fire at present after a poor display against Sevilla in the Europa League final, before an error-prone performance in his latest competitive match for Liverpool against Arsenal.
Paul Parker – England in action
Italia ’90 World Cup ace Parker was asked to select his preferred England full-back between Walker and Liverpool’s Nathaniel Clyne, and opted for the former Southampton and Crystal Palace ace.
Paul Parker, speaking exclusively to 888Sport, said: “I’d go with Clyne because he is a defender first who thinks about attacking second.
“Walker is like Moreno in that he leaves his area too often and can’t be trusted defensively.
“We saw that at the Euros. He can be incredible but too often falls asleep. Clyne is nowhere near as good on the ball as Walker but first and foremost he defends.”
England’s Kyle Walker looks dejected after the game
Walker was criticised after England’s loss to Iceland at Euro 2016 like most of the player who featured, but he in particular received flak after losing his man for the equalising goal in the early stages of the game.
The Spurs ace was selected ahead of Clyne at the tournament, and Sam Allardyce has an interesting decision to make when he picks his first line up as England boss.
Both right-backs began the season by recording an assist each, but Clyne’s Liverpool conceded three compared to Tottenham’s one.
