Tottenham defender Juan Foyth sat down for an exclusive interview with Argentine media outlet El Dia, and hinted that he is ready to remain in north London and fight for his place this season, rather than make a loan move away from the club.

The Argentine youngster joined Spurs from Estudiantes in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £8 million, but he failed to establish himself in north London, making just eight appearances in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Foyth has been linked with a loan move away from Tottenham this summer, with Voetbal Primeur reporting that Ajax are keen on bringing him to the Eredivisie.

The 20-year-old seemed to suggest that he will be staying with Spurs this season, however, when speaking exclusively to Argentine media outlet El Dia, highlighting how he is keen to improve upon his physical attributes:

Juan Foyth of Tottenham Hotspur warms up during the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur at Selhurst Park on February 25, 2018 in London, England.

“In general, it’s good despite not having played so much. I improved in a lot of things football-wise, I feel that I’m already adapted and that this year I will have more possibilities of being able to fight for a place in all the competitions that we have ahead of us, and to show all that I can contribute to the team on the pitch. The Premier League is very physical but, at the same time, very technical. The truth is that I’m very happy and comfortable to be playing in England and, particularly, with Tottenham. I am going more often to the gym and with more demand. For my position, in addition, it’s important that I can have a good physique to not lose against the rival strikers in that aspect.”

Foyth’s hopes of regular first-team action will depend heavily on whether Toby Alderweireld stays at Tottenham this summer.

If the Belgian leaves north London, though, as is expected, the young Argentine might finally get his chance to shine in the Premier League.
