Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers will reunite with Newcastle’s DeAndre Yedlin on international duty.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers has told the club’s official website that he’s looking forward to meeting up with former team-mate DeAndre Yedlin.

Carter-Vickers, 18, has come up through the ranks at White Hart Lane having joined Spurs at the age of just 11, and he’s highly rated by manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The central defender has not only been handed two starts in the EFL Cup this season, but has also been named on the bench for Premier League games ahead of Austrian international Kevin Wimmer.

Whilst Carter-Vickers’ club career appears to be tied to Tottenham for some time after he penned a deal until 2019, his international career has been the subject of something of a tug-of-war.

The defender was born in Southend, but his American father Howard Carter – a former NBA star – means that CarterVickers has spent his formative years playing for the United States youth sides, racking up nearly 30 caps from Under-18 to Under-23 levels.

On Monday, Carter-Vickers appeared to confirm his international future, as he accepted a call-up to the United States senior squad for World Cup qualifiers against Mexico and Costa Rica later this month.

Once he plays a competitive game, Carter-Vickers will be committed to playing for the United States – and that means that he’ll be reunited with a former team-mate.

Right back DeAndre Yedlin left Spurs for Newcastle United over the summer, but he joins Carter-Vickers in the United States squad as he closes in on 50 caps at the age of just 23.

Ahead of their reunion, Carter-Vickers suggested to the Tottenham official website that Yedlin is the only player in the United States squad that he knows well, and he’s looking forward to catching up with Yedlin, as the pair haven’t seen each other since Yedlin’s move.

“It’s only really DeAndre and possibly a few other players that I’ve played with in the youth teams that I’ll have worked with before,” said Carter-Vickers. “It will be good to see DeAndre, I haven’t seen him since he left for Newcastle but it’s good to see that he’s doing well up there and it will be nice to see him and have a chat,” he added.
