Tottenham defender, Ben Davies, expects his former club, Swansea City, to avoid relegation this season.
Following Swansea’s 3-1 defeat against Tottenham in the midweek, Paul Clement’s side have slipped into the drop zone.
The Swans are 18th in the Premier League but things can change quickly if they manage to win a few games as well as if results of other clubs go in their favour.
It was a heart-breaking result for Swansea who were leading till 88th min, thanks to an early goal from Wayne Routledge. However, Spurs showed great fightback in the end and sealed the tie 3-1 in their favour.
The 23-year-old left-back progressed through the youth ranks at Swansea City and moved to Spurs in the summer of 2014.
Davies thanked the Swansea fans for the great reception he received and said the Swans are a tough side to play against. He expects them to avoid relegation this season and reiterated the necessity of wins to stay up.
“It was a very tough game, Swansea were very organised and they made it very difficult for us,” Davies told BBC Sport.
He continued: “It is always nice coming back to the Liberty. I got a great reception from the fans, Swansea is a great club and hopefully they can do enough to stay up this year.
“They are very organised, they have good players who can get goals out of nothing, so with a few important games coming up, it would be nice if they can get a few wins.
The victory at Liberty Stadium meant Spurs stay second in the league, seven points behind Chelsea. Davies is confident that his side will not give up on catching the Blues and that there is always a chance.
“There is always a chance [of catching them] and we’ve just got to keep picking up three points every time we go out on to the pitch,” he added.
“It is not going to be easy, but if we can grind out results like we have been doing, then great.
“There is always a chance; we go into every game aiming for three points. If Chelsea do slip up, we have to be in a position to catch them.”
