Tottenham and Liverpool wanted David Carmo but the Porto defender has been whistled by his own fans in the Champions League this week.
Left-footed centre backs have certainly become popular in the modern game.
The balance and ability to play out of presses by opening up different angles has made left-footed centre backs in demand of late.
Tottenham signed a left-footed centre back in Clement Lenglet, landing the Barcelona misfit on loan for the season.

Tottenham and Liverpool wanted David Carmo
One of the other targets Tottenham looked into signing was Porto central defender David Carmo.
The Sunday Mirror reported in May that Tottenham were chasing the signing of Carmo, who was playing with Braga at the time.
A £20million valuation was suggested, but Tottenham were allegedly fighting Liverpool in the race for his signature.
In the end, Tottenham picked Lenglet and Liverpool didn’t sign a centre back at all as Joe Gomez ended up staying.
A route to the Premier League was closed off for Carmo and he ended up securing himself a move to Braga’s Portuguese rivals Porto.
The 23-year-old is featuring regularly for Porto but fans aren’t entirely convinced by him right now.
A Bola note that Porto fans were whistling Carmo during Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.
It was suggested that Carmo was passing back to goalkeeper Diogo Costa too regularly and not playing forward, frustrating supporters.
Carmo was defended by boss Sergio Conceicao, who told A Bola that he instructed Carmo to play that way as Porto didn’t want to take any risks against a high-pressing team.
Carmo still needs to convince Porto fans though and for now, it seems like Tottenham and Liverpool haven’t particularly missed out given their current defensive options.
Both clubs may keep Carmo on their radars but will be looking for him to prove his confidence on the ball moving forward.
